Miracle oil for Hair Loss and Frizziness

posted in: How to, makeup and Beauty | 17

Coconut Oil has been used on hair and skin since thousands of years. It is specially popular in the coastal countries like India, Sri lanka, Indonesia, Phillipines, Malayasia Hawaii and Caribbean. Coconut oil in these countries is used for cooking, as a skin moisturizer and as a conditioner for hair. Growing up I remember mom putting coconut oil on our hair ,every Sunday, to all four of us kids.  The best part of that Oil was the massage that went along with it, we didn’t want it to stop!curry-leaf-hair-oil-4

After coming to this country, while we focused on careers, this tradition was completely forgotten. Weekends were so busy with grocery shopping, cooking, socializing, that hair and skin were the last things on our minds. Of course, being new to this country , all the hair and makeup products in the store aisles looked tempting and I tried lots of different products. By this time, a little gray had started showing up and so started coloring my hair. Meanwhile hair kept thinning and graying, which I kept blaming on age. I had always heard we shed 50-100 strands of hair a day, its normal! so didn’t think or pay too much attention to it. You can read more about it here.curry-leaf-hair-oil-19

But when I started seeing a large handful every day in the shower, it definitely didn’t look normal. Call me vain, but I wasn’t ready to give up my hair color or my conditioner or my styling tools!  But the more I read and researched, the more I leaned towards natural remedies and diet changes. Curry Leaves and Coconut oil kept coming up as means to stop hair fall and premature graying as well as a natural conditioner. So During my research I learnt that Coconut Oil is beneficial not just for cosmetic purposes, for skin and hair but actually helps combat obesity! This is so contrary to everything that we know about saturated fats. You can read more about the benefits of Coconut oil here.

Then I researched about Curry leaves and found that it is abundant in Vitamins C, A, B and E and also high in iron. What caught my attention was Vitamin B!  I remembered my hairdresser telling me to start eating Biotin supplement, whenever I complained about my hair loss. With so many benefits, I knew I wanted to incorporate Curry leaves in my beauty regime, besides of course consuming it. So now it was just a matter of putting the two together.

So I tried this oil first time about a year back. Noticed a huge change in hair fall but what was also surprising was my hair was actually less frizzy now!  Wow!   Hair is so much more softer and manageable. I still use hair color, blow dryer and hair straightener, but at least I feel I am doing the right things to maybe negate the effects of hair color and heat. Now I use this oil at least once a week,  I alternate this with another homemade oil, Miracle Hair Oil to Prevent Premature Graying of hair.

Cuisine Indian

Servings 0

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Organic Virgin Cold Pressed, Unrefined Coconut Oil
  • 2 Cups Curry Leaves washed and dried on paper towel

Instructions

  • Wash Curry leaves thoroughly and dry completely on paper towels.
  • Melt the coconut oil in a pan, once melted add the curry leaves.
  • It may splutter, just for a few minutes, that’s why its extremely important to make sure its dry.
  • keep cooking the curry leaves, till they turn brown and crisp and you see some black spots on the bottom of the pan.
  • Remove from stovetop and cool completely.
  • Using a sieve, strain the oil completely in a glass container.
  • Apply at least twice a week.

Notes

The curry leaves should be washed and put to dry on towel a few hours before making oil.
I prefer to use a glass container for storing versus plastic because the oil will harden during winter months and you can warm the glass container to melt the coconut oil before application.
Always try and buy Organic, Unrefined, Cold Pressed Coconut Oil. We want to keep it as pure, unadulterated and simple as possible.

Nitassha, the idea is to use the best quality oil available, usually that would be organic, cold pressed. I don’t know if Parachute Nariyal tel is cold pressed or organic, but if that’s the only kind available, by all means use it. It should not be a problem.
