Make Karwa chauth ki thali with Chooris,Bindis, Sindoor and Atte ka Diya

posted in: How to | 0

I wanted to use all things associated with Karwa chauth to make this puja thali.  As we were getting ready for Garba a few weeks back and I took out my bangle collection to match with my outfit, I realized I had bangles from over 20 years that I had not worn. In this country I hardly get a chance to wear my bangles!  I knew I wanted to do something to use them up in a meaningful way.  After my very popular post on How to make Atte ka Diya for Mata ki Chowki/ Diwali Pujan/Karwa Chauth/Teej , I decided I definitely wanted to incorporate the bangles and Diya together.

My daughter is very creative and thankfully she didn’t have a test or too much homework the next day, so she helped me with the design. We picked bangles that contrasted well with the red background. We also knew we didn’t want to crowd it with too many things! I had a Red Charger at home, very easily available, especially during this time of the year. If you don’t have a red plate, just use a steel one and cover with red felt, cloth or paper. You can use any color, doesn’t have to be red.

kc-thali-5 We used Bangles on the plate and while she glued everything, I colored the Atta/Wholewheat Diya, which I had baked earlier, with Sindoor. Once that dried, I stuck Bindis on the Diya. You could use a mehndi/henna cone to draw beautiful designs on the plate or Diya. Enjoy karwa Chauth with the traditional Meethi Mathi, or the very easy 3 ingredient kalakand made in minutes in the microwave or the 2 ingredient Coconut Laddoo thats super quick and delicious.

So here is the written method followed by the step by step pictorial one-

  • Once you finalise the pattern, start gluing the first layer of bangles.
  • Place the second contrasting layer on top and glue in place.
  • Decide how big your Diya is going to be, make it and glue it in place. I used Sindoor to color it red and Bindis for decoration.

Notes

You can write ‘Om’

Involve your children, mother, mother in law, sisters, friends and make it as a fun thing to do on Karwa chauth day, it makes the day go by faster!
