Upvas/Falhari Cake for Janamashtmi with Almond Flour- Instant Badam Burfi forms the base for this ‘Matki’ cake. The Instant Badam Burfi requires only 4 ingredients and is ready in a matter of minutes. The fact that we don’t have to make a sugar syrup certainly makes it a very easy recipe.
I made and shared the Instant Badam Burfi last week and was itching to try out something new and creative using that as my base. I loved the fact that the Upvas/Falhari cake for janamashtmi is made up of ingredients that can be eaten during fasting, namely, nuts, milk, sugar and butter. With that in mind I started trying to figure out something easy to etch, nothing complicated.
It also had to be something that was synonymous with Krishna. I thought of a flute-too straight and simple I thought, peacock feathers-too complicated. By process of elimination, came up with Matki, meaning an earthern pot used for storing milk and churning butter in the olden days. Those familiar with Lord Krishnas’ stories about his childhood, know that he loved, milk and butter and was often caught red handed, literally with his hands in the Matki.
