The hindi word for fasting is Upvas which when broken up is ‘up’ which means high and ‘Vas’ which means place of abode. So upvas actually means attaining or reaching a higher level. This higher level is possible when we give up certain food and eat a satvik diet.
Food eating during fasts was meant to be light and satvik but over the years fasting has come to mean fried foods like Kuttu ki puris, Vrat ke Paneer, mirch, aloo ke pakore and fried Sabudana vadas. Though I love the fried puris, vadas and pakoras, I have over the years become more health conscious and tried to make the same traditional dishes with a healthier twist. Sharing below a compilation of Healthy Navratri fasting recipes. This post is ever evolving as I keep adding more healthy recipes that can be enjoyed while fasting.
