In my quest for a natural cure for my constipation which came on due to my Hypo thyroidism, I discovered this concoction in an article in our daily newspaper written by Dr Gott,many years back. This was at a time, when I was new in this country, had a small child and though I was working out, was still not very aware of the impact of the food that we consumed had on our bodies.
The most important ingredient to be regular,is to include fiber in your diet. For most Indians, a diet that consists of wholewheat rotis/chapatis, dals/lentils and vegetables is a diet that’s high in fiber and keep the bowels regular. Of course, with a small child, fresh rotis/ chapatis was just not feasible.I tried this concoction and it worked for me. The Bran mixed with Prune juice proved to be a good combination. Since then, of course I have changed my diet and life style completely. I still may not eat rotis/chapatis everyday but have learnt to be active, drink about 40 to 60 ozs of water, eat salad/smoothie atleast once a day and have been cured of my constipation. I recently recommended it to my friend whose 10 year old daughter was on Miralax for the last couple of years. She started this about a year back and in fact has completely stopped the use of Miralax since she started using this home remedy.
The original recipe didn’t call for any Flaxseed or a recommendation to drink water after taking this remedy. I had read about the benefits of Flaxseed and added that as well to the other ingredients. I also feel following up with a cup of 10-12 ozs of water also really helps. All Natural Homemade Remedy for Constipation
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Bran
- 1/2 cup Prune juice
- 4 oz Apple sauce
- 1 tbsp Flax seeds ground(optional)
Instructions

Mix all the ingredients and have 2 tbsp every night,30 minutes to an hour before sleeping.

After 30 minutes, have a glass of warm water. You may even add some lemon juice to it if you like.

Ingredients
Applesauce,Bran and Prune juice
Add Bran to the Applesauce and mix
Add Prune juice and mix
Add ground Flaxseed,optional
Mix and keep in a glass container and have 2 tbsp every night before sleeping,followed warm water after 30 minutes.
Made enough for giving to friends who had requested the concoction!
