I have used Non fat milk powder, if you use full fat milk powder, you can reduce the amount of butter. Microwaves vary, for me the peda mixture was ready in 3 minutes but for my friend who shared the recipe with me, it takes her 6 minutes. When I cooked it for the 4th minute, I felt the mixture was dry and the peda was crumbling. After 3 minutes, mix well and take a small amount in your hand and try to shape it into a peda. If you are able to shape it and pedas are smooth without cracking/crumbling, then the peda dough is ready. If the pedas are cracked/crumbly, add a tbsp of heavy whipping cream or milk and mix it. It is very important to start shaping the pedas while the mixture is still hot yet can be handled. My friend also uses the empty can of condensed milk for measuring the milk powder. She empties out the condensed milk completely and fills it up with milk powder. Her recipe is 1 stick butter, 1 can condensed milk and the same can of condensed milk emptied and filled with Non fat milk powder. It is exactly 1 1/3 cup of milk powder. You can garnish with nuts, rose petals or saffron.
